Winter's Coming

I was wondering if the oncoming of winter and the continuing increase in fuel costs have changed the direction of your business this year.

For me, there has already been an abnormal amount of replacement boilers this year. I've also been spending a LOT of time talking with customers about combustion efficiency, system efficiency and tightening up the building envelope. Customers are responding to my realistic proposals of upgrades to their systems both from the efficiency standpoint and also from the aspect of increasing comfort.

Is this a trend around the country? We're in Maine. Thanks.

    Yup

Ditto from NH.. Alot of my customer's are not only upgrading their heating system but they are also tightening up the house. I am seeing alot of people replace window's, door's and adding insulation where there never was any...Think it's going to be a long winter at these prices...

    ROI

The return on investment is an easy case to make with the high cost of energy.

The price of a barrel of oil gets front page news but have you guy's noticed whats happening to the cost of electric?

Business has been good on the commercial side. Between the cost of maintaning older equipment, the reliability factor and high fuel prices why wouldn't a building owner look into upgrades that reduce energy consumption?

"Can you replace my electric heat with an oil boiler?" is something that I am hearing at least twice a week lately. I didn't realize there were still that many out there. The phone is ringing off the hook for replacements, effeciency upgrades, anything to help the anticipated winter costs. There are simply not enough hours in a day. Maybe Weezbo could send the extra daylight this way!!! I can't wait until the flood of annual tune-up calls start!!!!

Who said things are slow this year????

    Speaking of Daylight *~/:)

I would be looking into Solar electric and heating ...from the way the Electric Energy forums run it appears that the ROI might be a bit better than one may have previously tabulated :)

Efficiency gain.... by cleaning and treating existing

hydronic systems. If you can keep the system working nearer design efficiency, the customer will see a gain in energy vs cost. The better maintained systems do not waste fuel, thereby lowering the energy bill.

The second benefit is fewer repairs due to corrosion and scale.

We have been stating the obvious for some time now, but these high fuel cost have made our arguements more timely.
