Buderus opinions and water capacity

Hi all!
Im looking at replacing a 1920s vintage hot water boiler and have
gotten several estimates for replacement.
The job:
Simple, non-zoned system for small (1100 sq ft) house.
Most estimates are for weil-mclain, a few for burnham or slantfin.
Ive been a building caretaker for years and certainly know and respect
all these brands.
However--Im most intrigued by an estimate for a BUDERUS boiler. Its
actually the lowest cost estimate-which surprised me since I thought buderus was pricy.
The model offered is the G124X. One thing I wonder about is the fact
that it seems very self-contained without easy panel access to wring
and valves like Weil/burnham/slantfin.
1) I dont see alot about buderus on the alt-hvac site...but Id love to
hear any opinions about them.
2) Also--these guys are going to do a plastic pad rather than concrete.
Any thoughts on that?
3) water capacity is a gallon more than all the other options (weil/burnham/slant). Any advantage to this?
Thanks very much for any advie!

Buderus G124X
This boiler works well when coupled with the Logamatic 2107 or 2109 control. It's easy to install and is available with a power vent option, or as an atmospheric vent. Buderus is competitively priced, and not much more than any American product. A mixing valve or bypass should be installed to prevent condensation, as required.

The G124X is available in three sizes G124X18= 2.5 gals, G124X25= 3.0 gals and G124X32 = 3.5 gals. One of the benefits our our equipment is all electronic components are accessible from under the front panel of the boiler(Aquastat, gas valve, ignition control,etc.. all made by Honeywell). We offer an optional metal base to mount the G124X boiler on (part number 81692120). Some of the other benefits are stainless steel pre mixing burner tubes (insure air and gas mix for proper combustion), 3" of insulation around the boiler block to prevent stand by heat loss and the patented GL-180M cast iron which is corrosion resistent and flexible. Please contact us if there are any questions. 1-800-BUDERUS (1-800-283-3787)Thanks,0 -
If venting issues permit...
The G124 is a great unit. If you're going to have to line a chimney, you may save some by using the GA124. (also consider an indirect to set it on and have only 1 unit serving the whole house) The GA124 is the quietest boiler I've ever (not) heard while running ! It sits wonderfully on top of one of Buderus' LT indirects, and works very well.
1100 sq.ft sounds quite small for even the smallest of these units, so make sure your contractor double checks the heat loss calcs..or get somewhere to save/get rid of all those extra BTU's.0 -
Buderus
Buderus boilers are very competitive and sometimes less expensive than American boilers. 95% of our boiler install are Buderus. They are the only boilers I trust with a matching great price for the value you get.
BTW, If you have a converted gravity system, see about getting the Buderus with the R2107 microprossessor. You wont need to do any bypass boiler piping if you use the out door reset controller.
