I visited Washington D.C. with the family last week and while viewing the new WWII Memorial (an awesome sight), I introduced myself to someone I thought was a WWII vet. It turned out that the man, Richard Rogers, is a vet, a minesweeper during WWII. Richard was also on the Memorial planning committee -- another bonus. We had a nice talk and by the end of the brief time together, he hugged my wife and children and thanked us all for thinking of him and the other WWII vets. He even said "I love you" to my wife. Words cannot describe how humbling this was and how much I truly love these people. God Bless them all.

I had a chance also
i was working at this house, and the man there was very nice and he was with me the hole time i was there, as i was leaving i noticed the photo on the wall and asked him about his time in the service, i forgot the name of the ship but he was cook / gunner , he had shoot down a kamakazi just as it slammed into the side of his ship and sent him flying overboard, he also had the bronze star, as i was ready to walk out the door i stopped turned around and gave him a sharp salute (former army man myself) and said thank you sir!! it brought a tear to his eye and mine0 -

One of the advantages of a long life
is you get to meet many people... I certainly have, and the vets I have known have always been dear to my heart.
My best story is a pharmacist I knew who made multiple trips into Omaha beach on D-Day as commander of a landing craft. His story was amazing and at the same time a simple one. He had a job to do and he did it. It is real courage when you are scared to death and still do the job. He told me that was his case.
I also flew with some flyers from WWII. Their stories and pictures were chilling to say the least. We owe all vets a great deal. If they served our country they should stand in high regard.0
