substitute the word reducing instead of regulating in the first question and google it again. I found lots of answers. These devices are commonly used on residential and commercial buildings... It just a matter of knowing the cross jargon.
I also suspect that his instructor MUST have given them this information in class. I know I do.
Good Luck
BTW,
This is more a class on how to google for answers then it is giving the correct answer. THere's a hundred people reading this right now that know the answer.
In lifes trials, the destination is not as important as the path you took to get there...

Hydronic Heating system questions??
My son has been given an assignment of making a class presentation (5-10 minutes) on the following topic:
1.) What is the purpose of a water pressure-regulating valve used with a hydronic heating system.
And
2.) What is the proper procedure for adjusting this valve?
I/ve been in the commercial controls business for over 25 years, and haven't come across this type oif setup. Is this a residential setup? If so what kind of system? I'm stumped.0 -
Internet search
Your son could go to taco's website and look up a pressure regulating valve and read the literature. I'll bet the answers are there. Should also have some pictures and/or diagrams.
If you don't mind me saying, let your son do the researching and write up of the presentation on his own. Of course let him make a practice presentation to you and then give him your feedback. It will be the best lesson you can teach him with this project.

Phil,
Thanks for the reference...and you're right about having him do the research, though he's been looking since Wednesday without finding anything - he showed me where he was looking and I couldn't find anything, either. I just came upon this site today myself. Good thing I did.
