QA Duct is available and meets all UL-181 criteria which the SpacePak GR8 did not. If you want to get a hold of some let me know and I'll direct you to a distributor in your area.

    Has anyone used it?

I did see an ad for it somewhere, but I can't find any info on SpacePak's site. Since I can't use fiberglass any longer and wrapping metal is too time consuming, I'm looking for an alternative. Anyone tried it?

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    we haven't used it

but i know some contractors who have and they liked it. i think you still have to insulate it though?

    Sleeves

HB, there are insulation sleeves that are 5' long. Check with your flex duct supplier. Much easier than wrapping and taping pipe...

The latest I heard on the GR8 duct, it was discontinued. Apparently the factory caught on fire, and they were unable to secure another supplier.

    Sprial

GR8 or "GREAT" is out , somthing about a hazard if it were in a fire. The old Mansfield plant that produced the old fiberglass caught fire a few years back... .Now they offer some kind of new sprial duct system....I understand it comes insulated.

    Gustafson(SP?)

Yes, I can't find the link to their home home page now. But, it is pre-insulated, spiral duct, with mechanical couplers, 90's, tee's, etc. 6' lengths, R8 insulation. Got a job coming up.

    2-part foam duct insulation system

    Hi Mark,

Mark, I'm having a difficult time imagning how to use 2-part foam to insulate duct systems. Do you EFI's High Expansion Foam on page 17 of their catalog? Thanks!

You mean like this? Absolute PITA and I never want to have to do this again. Any of the standard insulated flex had too great of a diameter--not so much an issue here where the 2 x 10 joists are only 8', but a BIG issue where they were 16'.

While not pre-insulated I was greatly impressed by the quality of the plenum ductwork from Spiral Manufacturing Company.

    Yes

    that's the stuff.

Seals and insulates at the same time.

It can be a bit messy so DO NOT wear clothes that you are fond of and cover anything that you don't want the foam on with plastic.

Once you get used to controlling the sprayer, there is much less over-spray.

Once it sets up, you can walk on the ductwork.

    Hope this helps.

    Gustafson

We are a distributor of Gustafson in New England and having success with it. We went through the GR8 disaster, this is a much better solution. 9" spiral duct, gasketed and insulated. It goes in quick, no taping. Excellent product.

It was called GR8 and it's off the market....

However, there's a product offered by QA Duct that meets the UL 181 fire and smoke ratings. It's the only pastic duct that cay that.... It comes in 9" ID and with R8 insullation and vapor barrier precut to fit straights and all fittings..

The plant that caught fire was a Johns Manville facility that made the "Ridged Round" fiberboard. Not the plastic duct..
