Wirsbo ADS

Hopefully the aquapex portion will be offered as an update for ADS6.1 SOON for those of us that didn't have version 5 to carry over from. The original 6.0 said when I installed it a year ago that it would follow as a later update----still waiting!!!!!! By the way John keep up the good work. You are one of those unforgettable trainers that are a joy to learn from. You were at my first training session in Albany, NY about 10 years ago. Loved your spot in the class. With your wit I can only imagine your comments about the new name change from the well known Wirsbo name to Uponor. Its like going from Crescent wrench to adjustable wrench- means the same but just doesn't feel write.

How can I edit the room space that isn't heated such as area's below cabinets and such? The software automatically assumes that you are heating all of the available floor area.

As you add a zone, you input the gross room or zone area, but then you can click on the "Floor" criteria and enter a different area of "Heated Space". If you have updated the software when prompted, I now believe there is a box to fill in "unheated" space.

Which version of ADS are you running and what revision?

    heated and unheated space

Paul's correct -- in the "floor" tab in the heatloss portion, there's a place where you can input the square footage of unheated area without loops -- meaning parts of the floor that will not get any tubing and won't be considered heated space -- cabinets, for example. The other option is unheated area with loops. These are areas that will be tubed, but for whatever reason can't be considered effective radiator space -- an island cabinet in a Joist Trak or Suspended Tube job, for example. The tubing is installed under the cabinets, because it's almost impossible not to, but it doesn't count as effective radiant floor space, and won't be included when determining the BTU per square foot load. Hope this helps!

Also guys the heatloss portion is pretty incomplete. Is there a way to get more specific?

    Specifically..

What are you wanting to do that you can't? It does take some time to input all of the criteria and set up user defaults...but after that it can be as thorough as you want it to be.

Really? Okay so basically I can set that up? Basically right now I can't specify all of the wall layers, cieling type, window R-value, or sliding glass doors... Things like that

    Wizards and inputs

    Josh --

There are wizards built in to the program to help you find r-values for windows, doors, sliders, french doors, single, double, triple pane, clear glass or low-e. Anywhere you see a box with an elipsis in it, simply click on it and you'll find the wizard. There's also one for finished floor materials and r-values, as well. You can select whatever r-value you wish for outside walls and ceilings. The heat loss portion will give you BTU total for the the project, for the room and for the particular element you're working on (floor, wall, ceiling, window, etc). It will also give you total BTU's and BTU per sqaure foot numbers for each room. You may also set up as many zones as you like, and as many water temperatures as you prefer. It will also help you size and specify supply piping to remote manifolds, and will determine the flow and head loss for each so you can accurately size your circulators. It will also allow you to choose whatever water temperature control strategy you'd like to use, and factor in any additional headloss if you choose a 3-way tempering valve or a motorized 3-way valve. If you select an injection mixing control it will tell you the injection flow rate you'll need.

Once that's all done, the program will give you a materials list at list price. If you know your multiplier from your wholesaler, it will allow you to determine your actual materials cost. A little mathmatics and you can use the program to determine your selling price, as well. In addition, you can build a database of all other materials you might use in a radiant heating system (you can even add pictures and descriptions for each extra item), and actually build a full job quote, complete with your own terms and conditions, special notes, etc. YOu can also print out a truckload of helpful reports to make the job go easier. If you have any specific questions, you can e-mail me or contact our tech services department. They can walk you through just about anything.

Sounds like I need to register John! I don't have those functions. I am going to do that today...

    Josh

P.S. I do really like the software so far. In fact I prefer it to HDS. I am going to send my engineer to the next Mini Boot Camp II.
