i thought Chris was thinking about DHW..
Chris, i have not used one for radiant heating. sorry about that, i missed that part.(i asked if that was the case.... )if thats the plan...i made a mistake...

I would say that The modulating condensing boiler would be a better tact to take.

    looking for ideas

    on some radiant designs....

After installing many, radiant systems over the years, I have yet to install a tankless system. I am looking for suggestions, hints, tips, tricks, and designs....

Am finally building my own house, and will be installing radiant, of course!!

I havent installed tankless, but would like to. am looking for anything you can share that will make the system run better and more efficient.

    thanks in advance

    Chris

Chris ,are you thinking to use it for radiant as well as DHW?

i have installed many propane ones over the years when thinking back maybe decades...whatever:) thing that is worth mentioning is this....when you have the mind set to save an conserve energy , your life style may change a bit meaning washing clothes everyday running the dish washer and taking a shower all at the same time, is the type of activity i caution people to steer away from and instead think about these water heaters more like an industrial power plant ...the plant gets things going and brings things on line little by little rather than all at once...if not the generator rolls over on its back all the motors and lights brown out and things no worky too good:)

    Hmmm...

If you have been installing radiant systems w/o tankless boilers for years, why are you changing that approach in your own home? I'm not a professional, but several luminaries here have alleged minimal installation cost savings that a tankless unit entails vs. a regular boiler once the whole system cost is considered.

Considering for how little money you can buy a Munchkin, I'd consider the 30% gas savings that a mod/con boiler seems to offer over a non-condensing atmospheric competitor. In most locations and homes in the US, that will add up in a hurry at todays gas prices.

Obviously, you need to start with a heat loss calculation and the flow requirements that your home requires. Depending on whether the boiler is oversized vs. the regular load or not, I'd consider a buffer tank. A non-condensing boiler may need return water temperature protection.
