I'm a HO and did anyone pick up on the blue silicone on the valve and manifold fitting? Wait till a piece finds its way to a zone valve.

    Interesting find

Got a call from someone complaining of domestic water temps being too hot. Put on a mixing valve, problem solved, but look what I found.

    1. Boiler installed by a "big box" store without permit.

    2. A rare manifold from Standard Heater & Oil Equipment out of Joisey City New Joisey

    It's a Dunkirk

Dunkirk has been selling their boilers to Sears (and Wards too, before they went out of business) for years. Once in a while I see one around here. Supposedly they subcontract their installation work to area professionals, but it's obvious they go for the low-bidders.

It looks like who ever did this (you could probably zoom in on his sticker he displayed so proudly) moved the boiler over closer to the chimney. I'm gonna say he's got about 4-5 foot exposed on the floor. There is a small plastic container under the burner that the Ho says they empty every so often.

I did give them a price to fix this mess but was told why? "It works alright I guess".

You can't argue with that kind of logic :)
