If you use a heat source like a propane torch and heat the area wheree it enters the pipe it can help.

    Stuck Main Vent

I have a Hoffman 75 main vent at the end of my main that was replaced 2 years ago (apparently by a knucklehead). The vent wasn't placed on a tee, so it's pretty beat up. It doesn't really close, and continuously hisses while the heat is on. I was planning on replacing it (most likely with a Gorton 2) on a tee. The problem is, I can't remove it from the pipe. I know it sounds like a silly question, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the vent off of the pipe (besides calling a plumber/heating guy)?

    Thanks.

get a 24" pipe wrench or any shorter size with a pipe extension.
