Ever skim through upper sight glass tapping?

You can skim through top gage glass opening...takes longer because of 1/2" opening.

. . . DH says you can skim through the upper sight glass tapping if necessary. I haven't been able to get the plug out of the skim tapping on my boiler (Burnham IN8). I'm willing to take a torch to it to get it out, if that's what it takes, but that's a lot of work.
If the upper sight glass tapping will suffice, though higher up and narrower, I think I'd rather do that, and save the time spent getting that plug out for repacking rad valves and other such jobs on the steam system.
Anybody got any experience with this?0 -
