The European HS Tarm boiler has had a good track record in the USA for the last 30 years. Both standard and gasifiers. The ones I see all are oil/wood combos.

Iam wondering if anybody out there has had any expieriance with wood gasifying boilers. They seem to be very common in Europe .With the price spikes and high costs of Fuel oil and natural gas is this a plausible alternative.I know wood is a lifestyle but is it possible that the individual may be looking at heat sources that use more than one type of fuel.Burnham used to make the woodlander dual fuel oil and wood. Are there any Domestic Manufacturers of wood /oil boilers.0 -
I've installed several brands
of Euro gasification units. a Tarm, Atmos, EKO Vimar and PK Pyro. I have an EKO Vimar in my shop now. I like the variable speed inducer fan. It controls the operating temperature very close compared to bang/ band operation. Combined with a variable speed "thermal clutch" and you have a sweet system.
The biggest hassle is the small wood box. Pretty hard to get an all day burn as you approch design days. Unless you grossly oversize the boiler to get a larger fire box. Don't be tempted to do it
I'm anxious to see the pellet fed gasification units. It makes better sence to have a hopper full of fuel augered in by variable speed, than chunks of cord wood. I believe Tarm already has these available. I think Radiant Engineering will soon be selling a very nice pellet gasification from Austria. Supposely the company that makes them for Viessmann.
There must be hundreds of these gasification units built, across the pond. I've seen several brands form Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, etc, etc. It makles sense to burn solid fuels with this process.
Check out this link for more info. Includes a nice plug for the Tarm boys back east
