ProPress
We are looking at getting a propress tool. What are you guys using? Ridgid or Rems??? battery or corded? Has anyone found any major advantages of either. Do both the ridgid and the Rems work with any fittings? Are you finding that the higher price of the fittings out weighs the labor and soldering cost? I guess with the price of these tools we want to be sure when we buy one we are getting the right one. Thanks for your help.0 -

I am very happy with the Rigid cordless tool. The cost of the fittings makes up for the time spent soldering, wiping and cleaning up after completion.

I use the REMS corded, works great.Have been let down by batteries too many times0 -
I have two
Both are cordless, the larger one is a Rems which we have used for up to 3" fittings. It handles the big stuff no sweat (pun intended). Wonderful piece of equipment but battery life can be a problem, as with any cordless tool I guess. The second one is a Ridgid Compact that will do up to 1" fittings. We have the jaw sets for copper tube and for Viega pex press fittings for that one. Love 'em both.
We had a small commercial job, 2-3" coppper, that we did a couple months ago. After fitting and supporting the entire manifold and near boiler piping together, it took a total of about 20 minutes to press the whole sheebang together. How much time would it take to clean, flux, solder and cleanup 43 sweat fittings with most being 2 1/2" and 3". Those kind of numbers answered the question for me.0 -
Nail on the head Steve!
We did a 2 boiler setup for the local F.D. about 2-1/2 years ago. Our supplier "loaned" us the ProPress E320 cordless unit. We also borrowed the extension tool and jaws for doing 2-1/2 and 3" fittings.
What would have taken 2 guys at least 3 days to sand, flux and sweat all the fittings was cut to a day and a half. Needless to say, the supplier didn't get his tool back. The bigger jaws did go back but we know we can get them when needed.Heck, not having to wait for the water to drain out of a line to sweat a joint probably paid for the tool in the first 6 months alone! Time IS money.
We also bought the "compact" tool for smaller jobs and to also have a second on hand for those days when everyone wants/needs it. It's also a bit easier on the arms when working overhead all day in tight spaces.
Fittings availability was the biggest hurdle to overcome initially. Those problems have gone by the wayside in a relatively short time as all of our suppliers are now carrying them. It is a big outlay when first getting started but really pay off in the long haul.Again, time is money and this is a BIG time saver. Chris0 -
It's REMS for me
This small REMS is very slick. Light weight, easy to use. The threaded rod cutting jaws are a must have, also

Can the pro-press cordless REMS tool interchange heads between Press heads and Expanding Heads (wirsbo) or do you have to purchase two separate tools?0 -
REMS offer
100 or more crimping jaws. I believe Wirsbo uses REMS built tools for some of their offering. Contact REMS if you have a specfic tong in mind. As far as I can tell the tongs, or jaws, interchange from machine to machine. Best to get that from the horses mouth
