When did you install your first Extrol tank?

i'm saying in the case of a leaky schrader valve (say over 5 years) rather than a failed bladder.

It’s hard to believe Weezbo but for me the answer is 19years ago. That’s when I became a part of this great heating industry.

    extrol tank recharge?

    question:

if you feel that your expansion tank has taken on water or that the pressure isn't correct, is it ok to remove (bleed water if any), check it with pressure gauge & adjust to 12lbs with a manual pump and re-use or do we really have to fill up the dumps & landfills with these tanks (and buy a new one)?

  • A question??

    Soot,

Are you suggesting that one would continue to use the tank after the blatter fails, by pressurizing it with air and using it as as a compression tank?

    It would not work.

    Gotcha,

    Sorry,

Sure, there is no reason that you could not just tighten up the Schrader valve, and re-pressurize the tank to the proper pressure. If the bladder is good, the tank holds pressure and the Schrader valve can be sealed, there is no need to scrap the tank.

My first try at B and C Heating . I thought it was used to make the hot water back then . You never forget your first boiler job . Hmm , could be a new thread ....

    How about this?

When's the last time time you saw a true expansion tank-tank in the attic, open, piped for overflow to the roof-still used? For me, just last week, in a dandy of an old house. A roofer friend of mine was tearing off a wood shake roof, got to the overflow and thought about cutting it off in the attic and plugging it. Good thing he didn't-the relief valve had a plug in it. Got some service work and (more than a) few beers to boot (after I explained what could have happened-worst case, and all. Might have embellished a little, too.)

    I just cut one out

Had been operating through last years heating season. We just changed out the boiler and got it up and running last week. I still see a couple a year that are still operating
