will Condensate from condensing

You're probably right about not being able to get NFC ABS on this side of the border, which is probably why we use NFC PVC.

    will Condensate from condensing

Boiler wreck standard ABS drain pipe or do I have to use PVC in the sections where it runs ...Paul
  • I am not a plumber but

the plumbing contractor who pipied my house informed me that standard ABS is not specifically designed or approved to move liquids in the pH 3 range. He told me that PVC is to be preferred. We did.

In addition to concern over the piping material near the boiler we have to pay attention to the drainage pipes that have been roughed in beneath the floor slab and we need to be mindful of the material that municipal drain lines are made of. Vitreous is fine, concrete is not, cast iron is not, copper is not.

Lastly, if your unbuffered condendate can access your septic tank and field, be aware that your otherwise happy bacteria will become very unhappy, potentially going on strike.

    Regards.

    Condesate Nutralize

If the combustion condesate has to go in the drain system best off to neutralize it first .Let it run through a bucket of marble chips first to bring up the ph.

    pH of 3?

Personally I do not know of any condensing boiler that emits a level that low.

The Voyager unit actually requires ABS for it's venting. That unit can potentially condense about a gal/hr. But it's pH level is about 5.5-6.0. If you call the manufacturer and find out the expected pH levels, and you are in this range I wouldn't worry about it at all.
  • The pH of my condensate...

was 5.7. Shouldn't be a problem for ABS. Plus, IINM, HTP allows for the use of non foam core ABS in their venting instructions.

As for feeding the septic tank, I think dilution will cancel any negative effects on the bacterium.

    May want to check again,

We allow no foam core to be used on venting. Intake air is fine. To my knowledge, solid ABS is not available in the US, only foam core. Canada has solid ABS, which is where we get it. We supply the mandatory length of ABS needed for the Voyager, when it is shipped.

Basically, if you are in the US, and you see a Munchkin vented in ABS, it is probably wrong

PH may vary slightly depending on contend of the gas, but my personal experience has been 5.5-6.0

    Hope this clears it up.
