cheminey take up
Stephan
Member Posts: 7
On top of my boiler the cheminey is 8" big and then on top of that there is a "hood" of about 18". In between them there is a lot of air and heat going out the cheminey. Is there someting I can do different or this is the way it have to be set up. There's got to be a more efficent way to do that. Thanks

That heat going out is heated CO from the boiler firing, like on top of the water heater. You don't want it, just the heat.
Look into a GFX heat exchanger. It absorbs heat from the outside of the vent, and transfers it to the hot water, but I think it is only made for drains. I have seen home-made HX's on vents, though.

damper
New boilers come with a motorized damper that closes the flue pipe after the boiler shuts down to stop the ambient air from going up tyhe chimney. An after market unit is available for old units that didn't come with this.0
