ProPress fittings (PAH)

No one stocks these fittings in my area. The supplier from whom I purchased the PP tool promised we'd be just one day shy of any fittings needed - before we took the plunge. Now that we bought the tool, the local branch acts like we're from Mars when we ask for simple things like 1/2" or 3/4" ells. Can't wait to see what an odd fitting request will do! But then, I've been waiting for three days to get a reply back regarding reducing T's that they simply ignored on our original order. "I thought you'd get them somewhere else" was the soon-to-be branch manager's lack-luster response once I discovered they went ignored on the list we supplied. D'OH! And why is it I have to be the one to discover they weren't planning to include requested items?!?

At RadFest East, the person in charge of inventory for this supplier said they'd stock the entire line - in York - if we bought the tool, but reality is turning out to be quite different. Our "salesman" hasn't returned a call for three days now.

Calls today revealed others will soon be stocking the fittings (from a few weeeks to a month or more estimated), so it won't be long till we can drop the poor performers in this loop.

Meanwhile - back to soldering :(

Did I say Pro-Press? I meant the mole, you should of bought the mole.

Just kidding. I'd raise heck about the lack of fittings. What good is the tool without the fittings? I'd see if you can get the factory involved or prepare the sling-shot and launch that sucker back where ya got it from. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

    SQUEAK!

    same thing in my area

I shop 3 different suppliers to get the basics. All I use so far is mip adapters and couplings. The rest I Curvo and t-Drill. I did get valves from Jomar.

I understand Graingers stocks press fittings. Generally a two day turn around in my area.

I imagine this is a fairly large $$ commitment for suppliers to stock the entire line of press fittings.

    The tool

works like a champ! Had it OTJ for two days. While at RadFest East, the wholesaler promised they'd have a full line waiting for us if we'd purchase the tool. Reality has turned out to be quite different.

However, in checking today, I discovered three other local suppliers who are taking on a full line of fittings compatable with the PP. It'll shake out in the long run.

Sigh - another lesson learned at what shouldn't be the cutting edge. Some day I'll learn to be less gullable(G).

Meanwhile, we're back to soldering :( Two steps forward, three steps back - with less cash!

Yup, da moile would a been a better choice.

    stocking order

is just 18K according to one supplier I spoke with today. From my end, it looks like a 5K shop stock, so 18K for a supplier is not bad by comparison.

Hadn't checked with Grainger, but I will tomorrow. Thanks.

I normally try to remain loyal to local suppliers, but I feel like I had the wool pulled over my eyes this time, which opens doors (like Graingers) where I wouldn't typically shop otherwise.

Dave, Try calling David Sutton, District manager, Viega NA.
(877)-VIEGA-NA or go online-www.viega.com I'm in NJ and I get a very good response from my Viega and Rigid people as far as out of stock fittings go. Rigid District manager Mark Holmsborg (908) 672-6545 may be able to help push these guys along and stop the old "bait and switch". Hope this helps. Email Mark at mholmsbo@rigid.com

I asked the branch manager at a local wholesaler if he

thought they'd be stocking PP fittings any time in the near future. He told me the initial order had to be $50K. I didn't ask about followup orders.

    Must be lucky

They do not stock at my local branch. But,I can get almost any pro-press fitting from Ferguson in a day. Recently found a industrial supply house about 30 min. away that has full stock 1/2" to 3" & ball valves too!

    Pro press

I know what you mean Dave. When I moved back to York from Winchester, VA, I was surprised how far I had to go to get what I needed.
In VA I made one maybe two stops and all was ready to go. Here, I find myself running allover just to get what I want.
Dave- what are the chances of stopping in today and visiting?

    Viega

I saw an ad in a trade mag for gas fittings made by Viega. We've got a commercial RTU we installed this past summer & had been waiting for the gas co to lay in the new service line (old unit was electric strip heat!). Long run of 1.5" to install in a retro-fit app, so that'd be sweet to use. The gas co finished on Monday & it's getting cooler.

    PP fittings

Local indusrtail tool company stocks the fittings. order today and delivered to our door by the end of the day or first thing in the mourning. They also loan us the tool if we need additional tools. We currently have three and are looking add three more units in the next year.

    much appreciated

A large portion of our work is service-derived, which demands immediate resolutions. With that level of local support, we can begin utilizing the benefits of the PP tool to work faster and smarter.

    Thanks!
