another solution is to install a thormstatic air valve. this will slow down if not shut down the radiator when the room is warm, thus solving the oversize radiator problem

    Carefully. :)

I'll tell you how I did it Stan, although I'm not a pro. You didn't state how old the radiator is, if it's one of the old Victorian's with threaded nipples, don't bother. See this article for info: http://www.heatinghelp.com/newsletter.cfm?Id=20

But what I did with one of the Burnham slimline, was take out the threaded rods and cut some 1x3 oak "triangles" to wedge between the sections. Cut them long and skinny so you don't apply too much stress and the sections can come apart gently. Turn it on its side and tape each wedge (I put two on the top and two on the bottom) and then just alternate back forth. Done this a few times with success. Probably not "the" way to do it, but it worked like butter.

    cheers

    With Luck....

......temperature and simple tools you can wedge the sections appart .Unless its one of them old rare one directional nipple type.....

The luck part falls under the push nipples...Can you find new ones?Would it reseat with the old ones? Could you use the old ones? Did they stay in the right sections?

Remember they are old enough to be Great,Great Grand Parents....

I as a pro would buy a new radiator. Unless your were paying me by T$M....................in cash :) Check out Burhams Classic Rads for extra style..
