    Thermostat

Been looking to replace my 1995 Honeywell Chromotherm T8090 with a new VisionPro RTH8500D for 1 pipe steam. I have the following questions:

    1. Is the RTH8500D a powered unit or battery only? I don't have batteries in my current model so I assume I need a powered unit for replacement.

    2. Does the RTH8500D offer an external temp display? If so, what is required?

    3. The existing Chromotherm is working fine, but I wonder if the ability to set the cph to 1 on the VisionPro is a efficiency benefit for me. My system is 2 years old and insulated. House walls and ceiling were just insulated last season. I have heard mixed reviews on CPH for steam, 1 vs 3.

    Thanks for your time.

    1. 8500 Battery only, but it would work fine. The 8000 can be battery or 24v powered.

    2. I don't think the 8500 can. The 8000 definitely can have an external sensor installed (or an extra internal sensor). The sensors are under $50.

    3. I won't even hazard a guess on that.

The 8500 is the retail model. The 8000 is more or less the same but it is marketed to be for only HVAC contractors to sell and install and has a much longer warranty.
