doing it horizontally is easier than laying down on oil boilers. If it was me I would turn it on its top to do it,that way its level. You can line it up better and eyeball the sections and gaskets as it goes. Not as hard as it seems honest.Dave

hot water boiler leaking between sections. any percentage in replacing gaskets if sections look o.k. visible inspection , testing & if test holds put back in service OR condemn boiler & start fresh. if test and new gaskets fail should customer be liable for labor & materialused to try & salvage boiler ?

We pumped into a well-mclain boiler the proper antifreeze
and now it keeps on turnig on and off. Did we do something wrong?

pj, unless you are referring to the same boiler you may want to start another post, rather than inadvertently hijacking this one. Hope you get your answer.

how old is the boiler 68 or gold series? We have sold a lot over the past 25 years since the 66 series. I would split the boiler and clean out the sections. Check both machined surfaces and gasket grooves for rot.Regasket and robe the boiler put in a new firebox kit and you should be good to go. If you can leave a front or rear section in place (tied into header or return) than walk sections away that gives you a steady base to work from. Also a couple of pieces of 1x3 under the middle sections works great to keep them level as you assemble it back together. I do a couple a year takes about 3 hours total start to finish plus skimming the boiler if needed.good luck Dave

it is a eg 65 hot water system. looks to be maybe eight years old or so. is it advisable to replace gaskets with sections in place in upright vertical position. as opposed to completely disassemble & reconnect horizontally / i am very skeptical about doing this job. it is involved with an insurance company that is leaning to repair rather than replace. i am unsure how & why the gaskets & or sections failed. i could understand steam dry fired but this is hot water . we once replaced the gaskets on one years ago [ sections looked good ] when we tested boiler, sections were loaded with pinholes. total waste of time & money.
