And the cry goes forth, "DO THE MATH!" It feels good to come in and make modifications with the confidence of having the heat loads in your hand, and it sets you apart in the customers eyes. Nice looking job too. I havent seen the boiler before. Who makes it.? WW

    Even though

there was about 350 feet of additional space added, after a proper heatloss, I was able to reduce the boiler size from 100K to 75K.

Also replaced the ineffeciant stand alone tank with this "pedestal" tank. Added a tekmar 260, with a tekmar timer, and basically talked the owners into leaving all but 3 feet of the original convectors. So there is now approx. 40% more lineal feet of convectors, then what my heatloss program called for.

I am hoping that this family will see at least a 15% reduction in fuel usage, but secretly feel that it may be more like 25%.

    Why is the

relief valve so removed from the boiler ? I would be concerned that the ball valves could be shut and the boiler has no safty.

Who makes the boiler ? I've never heard of it.

    Thanx guys

The boiler is an Allied Superhot. They are built about a mile or so from where I live. A nice little steel boiler that you see a lot of around here.

Nice call Scott on the relief. When I go back to get my heaters (they are still being used in the garage and crawl spaces), I will take the handle of the vertical ball valve off. The relief ended up there so that I could purge the boiler through it.

Yes Wayne, I have won a few jobs, "because you were the only one that actually measured our house." I try to get the homeowner to help me by holding the tape measure, or jottting down the measurements. While doing this they always get curious, then I can explain to them why I am doing it. Not only an excellent sales technique, but also a way to start to educate the homeowner.
