4 1/2\" end caps?

... the OD of the pipe is 4-1/2", then it's 4" pipe. That shouldn't be too hard to locate. If you've really got 4-1/2" pipe...well, they haven't manufactured that dimension in a lot of years. It'll be like looking for 7".

  • Anyone know where I can get 4 1/2\" end cap in black pipe

They seem to be difficult to locate here in the Phila area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Hank
  • No, it is 4 1/2\"

It is for a older system I need to cap off so they can still have heat in part of the house they are living in whilst I renovate the other part.

    I'm Thinking...

... a welder, a 5 X 4 butt weld reducer, a 4" nipple you can cut in half, and a 4" cap. Get the welder to cut the big end of the reducer back to the OD of the 4-1/2" line, weld the half nipple to the 4" end, weld the cut end to the existing line, and screw the cap on.

If you're breaking out the welder...

.... why not just weld the thing shut in the basement proper? If the installation is temporary, i.e. will see no use in the future, this may be even easier.

    Check

some of the old time supply houses may stock 41/2" black caps. In Seattle, I use Ballard Hardware, which stocks marine piping P/V/F and has hard-to-get 41/2" fittings.
