Steam hammer on shut down of burner

Just installed new Utica model mgb225 steam boiler. Text book piping and installation on a 1930's vintage home with a one pipe distribution system. Problem is when boiler burner shut down it starts to hammer. it sounds like comming from the Hartford connection. The tie in is two inches below the water line, with close nipple, 1-1/2" equalizer, 3" main header, two 2" risers 24" above water line, 3" system riser vertically off header. Piped exactly manufacturer spec's. In fact Utica's tech's said pics i sent were perfect. System never builds pressure on the boiler gauge but heats home fast and evenly. M&M probe type feeder with delay works fine.
Need help if anyone has any ideas, Thanks.

    Hammering @ EOC

    Gary,

What "may" have happened is a large amount of sediment
worked it's way back into your "wet return" causing the hammering in or around the hartford.

This, from what I have been informed by the "experts"
happens when going from "old to new".( read: years of
    neglect / no maintenance )

If you have an isolation valve just below the hartford,
close it, then if you have a drain on the wet return, open
    it. See what you get?

Buncha spooge I'll recon, then if you can, follow the piping back to the highest point in the pitch, find that radiator ( or a leftover tapping ) bust the nut loose, slide the rad back, remove the valve, slide in garden hose and flush.

Make sure you leave the hartford isolation valve closed and
the wet return drain open, don't want to flush all that schmootz back to the boiler.

Post a pic if you can.

If it's not possible to do the above just flush out the wet
return every few days till it clears up.

    It may take awhile...

Hope that helps and happy steaming, db
