Knightly update

... though despite your neatness and compact install, it's starting to look tight!
The Curvo strikes back once more... very, very nice. Who makes the big temp dial you have on the return next to the boiler?
Has anyone tried the T-Drill series of header-creation tools? Looked like a good idea when I saw it in a catalog. However, the real world has a nasty habit of getting in the way of good ideas...

I have this 80K Knight
almost ready to fire. With a small Caleffi Hydrolink to keep the boiler and zones apart.
I am going to try and drive the indirect off the end of the Hydrolink. Be interesting to see what temperatures I get when the Knight goes to high fire, DHW priority. I'm not sure exactly what happens in the Hydrolink blend chamber?

Caleffi
I also try to use Caleffi products.
What is the bracket the holds the expansion tank? Did you make it?

Actually the system
this Hydrolink is replacing was a T=drilled primary loop. it had a Weil GV and indirect with a bunch of mix stations.
That little black 'link replaces 30 feet of copper and a bunch of tees nad takeoffs. It frees up a lot of space in the mechanical room and should eliminate the overheating issues from the old cast iron boiler.
The new system will run off an outdoor reset (onboard the Knight) and hopefully be a constant circ.
The gauge shipped with the boiler. It's not as large as it looks. About a 2" diameter. Uniweld still makes large faced T&P gauges in square and round versions.

Hydro link
Does the hydrolink come with the mounting brackets or do you have to buy them seperate. I have to thank you for bringing the curvo to my attention. I am getting faster with it every day and am saving time and money , more so with those pricy 1/1/4" fittings. It also seams as if the air gets out of the system faster with the long bends.0 -

I think that if you slave your system pumps to the boiler pump the DHW will see full boiler discharge temp.. If you leave the system pumps running on a call for DHW the indirect will see somethig less than boiler discharge temp.. Do the Caleffi gadgets have NPT? If I stayed Over-Knight in this dwelling with the Knight would I have a Silent-Knight? Or how noisey is the combustion blower? bob0 -

The larger Hydrolinks
come with these really rugged mounting brackets. Mounted solidly you can really wrench on them.
For some reason the 1" HL does not come with brackets, but mounting holes to lag it to the wall. I've asked Caleffi to include the brackets with all sizes, makes it much more user friendly.

The Knight actually has DHW, boiler and system pump connections on the terminal strip. I'll try it both ways with just DHW and then with boiler and DHW pump. This model pumps with a Super Brute (included) so I can adjust flow rates a bit.
The Caleffi Hydrolings arer NPT male threads on the branches. FIP on boiler connections.
Be sure to use teflon tape and dope. For some reason EURO cut NPT's don't always seal as well. Or else the paint on the threads makes them harder to seal?

How did you pipe the 3" PVC for the intake? Did you pipe in the 3" 90° with the low-heel inlet for a "Dirt-leg" effect? I emailed Ike at the plant but have not heard back from him.

actually I haven't completed the intake air yet.
I am concerned that the weight of that piping transmits to the aluminum cone on the gas valve. You REALLY need to make sure that intake piping is supported from above. Somehow!
Think I would rather a thin, light weight pipe for the vertical section.

T-Drill
I used the T-Drill in the old days.An amazing invention! Upside you don't spend a fortune on Tees. Downside, the fitting allowance made by T-Drill is shallow so all connections must be brazed or stick silver soldered. So copper is scorched, makes an ugly mechanical room presentation. We used it on mains in ceilings and in walls...
