Non-condensing side wall vented boilers are required to use SS vent material. IOW, the vent material is dependent on the category of the appliance and the manufacturer's installation requirements.

    SS Venting vs PVC venting

I am a Crown boiler rep in the midwest and I use to sell Dunkirk Hi-eff boilers that were allowed to use PVC venting. Now that we rep Crown I am required to vent with AL29-4C for Crown's Hi-eff boilers. I am looking for information that would help me educate the contractors on the features and benefits of SS vs PVC and if there is a movement going on to make SS code for Boilers. I know that various cities in the U.S. have outlawed PVC in Commercial applications and have not required the same of residential applications. I have also heard that flue temperatures are higher in boilers than scorched air furnaces and the PVC becomes soft over a period of time and could pose danger to the homeowner. Is the information about this issue out there?

    Thanks

    which vent?

Stainless steel is a much better choice.although it is exspensive and overpriced in my opinion.Ther have been recalls on plastic vents already. They become brittle and the joints come apart. The replacement pipe was B Vent.I was on a Federal housing job where many of the plastic vents were put together with no glue. These passed inspection.Stainless steel will hold up better. For example in a house fire stainless will carry the fumes outside but the plastic will meltand might kill you.If a someone uses atorch near a plastic vent could be trouble not so with ss.
