blowback or delayed ignition from oil fired steam boiler

Joy,

Here are some possible causes for delayed ignition on your oil-fired steam boiler. Delayed ignition can result in blowbacks.

There may be a problem with oil delivery to the burner. This may be the result of air leaks in the suction line (line that carries fuel to the burner from the tank), clogged or defective nozzle, too much combustion air, oil line restriction or a clogged oil filter among other causes. There may also be a burner motor problem that is causing a reduction in oil pressure at the outlet of the pump.

There may be an electrical problem. Electrical problems include the primary control, improper electrode spacing, loose electrical connections and defective transformer (if one is used)

Too much combustion air can also result in delayed ignition.

blowback or delayed ignition from oil fired steam boiler

I am trying to obtain information on blowbacks and/or delayed ignition in an older, oil fired steam boiler. Specifically concerning any maintenance requirements, or information regarding blowbacks as a result of poor maintenance or other circumstance resulting in furnance blowback.

    Bottom Line

It is critical to have your oil fired equipment checked on a yearly basis. Most small problems can be detected befor they compound into big problems. And believe me I have seen it. Most people still think "out of sight, Out of mind".
