Steam Boiler Trips Electric Switch

this is a common problem with "power stealing digital stats" and steam boilers. The boiler is satisfying itself on the pressuretrol and when it shuts down, the stat loses power. You need to have a pro rewire your boiler or use a mechanical T-stat, or use a stat that requires outside power source. You need extra T-stat wire for the later, so a mechanical stat is usually the easiest and less expensive alternative.

Steam Boiler Trips Electric Switch
We have a 15 year old steam boiler and have recently capped two pipes that used to go to the small attic of a Cape Cod house. So now the boiler may be just a bit oversize. It was working fine since, but recently it has begun to heat up for a while and after about 4 minutes, before completing a normal cycle, it seems to trip an electric switch (or relay) and shuts off. My electronic thermostat is current stealing and it goes blank (as it would if the water level were low). Then after a while, say 20 minutes, the current will return, the thermostat will be on for a while and the process repeats itself. If the temperature is lifted to the desired level, the thermostat stays on at least until the next time heat is called for. It seems as though the heat from the furnace is opening an electric switch. Thanks for reading this far and I would appreciate any advice you can offer.0 -

I probably should have mentioned that it's a gas boiler.0 -
