it's because of the larger section models needed the flow. Why make a different casting section for a 2-3 section then a 6-9 section?
Or maybe because of the steam version of some of the hot water oil models use the same castings also.
The smaller steel btu boilers are all 1" or 1 1/4" for the most part.

What is the reason why the American boiler manufactors have been building small btu boilers with 1 1/2" supply taps ?0 -
