Danfoss ZCP P/B conversion-PGP

The client was not happy to have most of his manifolds fail and spew boiler water onto his rugs and finished home which is only ten years old. The original contractor used Polybutylene tubing in the radiant floors and severe O2 corrosion was noted.

We decided to use Danfoss ZCP's to simplify the boiler piping with a FPHX in the 2nd panel to separate the P/B system from the boiler. I had the panel custom made with a 26-99 bronze pump on the system side. HUGE time savings on not having to fab the "near-boiler" piping. I'm a convert. The owner will add indirect DHWTanks when the gas fired water heaters fail.

We converted the manifolds to Wirsbo TruFlow brass manifolds...they work great and fit in tight locations. A Wirsbo 4-wire ZV on each manifold triggers the demand for heat and signals the panels and boiler. The ECL controller in the FPHX panel allows heating curve adjustments and timer functions. We also had to increase the distribution piping to 1", to accomodate flow rates. A large crawlspace and ProPress fittings made fast work of it.

We had a slight problem when the custom panels arrived...the FPHX panel was incorrectly fabricated per the custom order, with the pumps reversed. Danfoss immediately apologized and fabbed a new panel, shipped and delivered the correct one within 48hrs from Alberta. Now that's real customer service....!!! And that's why I use the products I use.

    PolyB isolation Panel

    Great job Paul.
We have sold many of the ZCPHXPRR HEX Isolation panels in the last two years. Even keep them on my stock shelf. Plenty of old PolyB tubing installs to retrofit and bring back to operation. Danfoss also produce a larger version simular to the 4WE series panels. It has a HEX and is good for 100 MBH for larger loads. Danfoss can also turn that ZCPHXPRR Unit into nice 50 MBH Snow melt panel for residential projects.
Danfoss has allowed my contractors to make a profit as well as reduce time on the project. Done well every time!

We are know working closely with the Mechanical Contractor's and Builders. In many cases the desision to install Danfoss panels is the only choice.

    Nice to see your work!

    Great Product

The manuals need a little tweaking, but the product is amazing, considering the labor savings. It's a superb way to save the boiler or at least extend the life expectancy.

More contractors should know of the solution to PolyB radiant tubing directly connected to cast iron boilers.

I like the tweak to the 40+.....: :)

    lbs of circs :)

Paul , i wonder how one of those Taco X blocks would fit into the overall scheme of things on a retro fit...Have any arrived in your area ? the danfoss packaged boxes have alot of goodies packed in a fairly tight space and look professional,if i cant get one of the X blocks soon , i think your application of the danfoss will have its day.

really there is no comparison from what the lash up looked like in the first place and your vision of it in the future ...those danfoss pannels look good . Those water heaters gotta Go...they are hideous.

    Hey Weez

I almost used the Taco mixing block connected to a FPHX. The reason I didn't was that it would have added 3 more days of piping labor to the job. The Danfoss panels simply made it all work faster.

Yes, the HW tanks are hideous, and a far more expensive way to make DHW.
