  • I don't know how we keep stumbling into these jobs .....

This one was in Great Neck , Long Island . A mere 20 miles from the shop , but it might as well be another country . It took us almost 1.5 hours to get there this morning . This was a 2 day install . We ripped out that deceivingly small boiler and had the new one in place and the header piped the 1st day . The old one was 8 friggin sections - in the middle of a finished basement with white walls and new gray carpets . The owner was real cool about the smudges here and there , she did not mind cleaning them even though we said we would do it .

  • And our little suprise..........

This was connected into the boiler too . EVERYTHING is in 3/4 inch - 2 radiant zones and a baseboard zone . This should be a " how many things can you find wrong " pic for HVAC students . The 1st thing we heard when we went down there was alot of gurgling in the indirect . Someone threw on an air eliminator on the top of the Phase 3 , the boiler water side ! The homeowner said she never had good heat in the radiant or baseboard .
  • We installed the Burnham V84

Amazing boiler for steam . The water line stayed rock steady for about 1.5 hours while we skimmed and cleaned . Nope , no drop header , but we did increase the boiler main to 3 inch . Since fixing the indirect was not in the contract , we gave her a few options if the hot water side gives her problems : Repipe the whole indirect , or use the indirect for hot water and pipe the zones off the coil , or use the coil or indirect for hot water and throw in a small boiler for the hot water heat . After all is said and done , it would've been easier to convert the rest of the house to hot water heat , but she really does love the steam .
