Radiant cooling

I'm not familiar with the application you're talking about but I JUST talked to a guy in Denver by the name of **** Barnett from ZCP Inc (303-618-4108) He says he's the only **** there. This call was the result of a long conversation with Brian Wheeldon in Calgary (403-236-9560). Anyhow ZCP, a Danish co I think, apparently purchased a portion of Danfoss that included their control for just such jobs. The M# I got for my application was ZCPECL-U-30 for a control that senses water temp, indoor humidity, indoor air temp and floor/panel temp. It monitors the RH of the room and keeps the temperature of the floor or panel just above the RH. You need to split the load between radiant and forced air because on the warmer more humid days the radiant temp will not be enough to keep up. Exactly how much to split will vary from job to job I imagine. Imbedded in concrete or panels is the only way to go. Quik Trak and strap up will cause the TUBE to sweat (even though the floor won't) which creates a mold potential which only leads to lawyers. Anyhow, I'm waiting for **** to send me literature. He's says ZCP is working on it but they're not quite set up for the eastern US yet. He sees no problem with me getting one if I need it. Naturally, after all that research, I talk to the potential customer and mention what general area it looks like this all might COST and his eyes got big, the sputtering started and the backpedaling soon followed. I love these "green" guys. They're all about green until you start talking about the green. LOL... Ah well, it just gives me yet another way to present HVAC to my customer. Every once in a while you get one that goes for it. ;)

    Radiant cooling

I read in Radiant Living magizine, Spring of 07 about a radiant cooling system that was in use in california. They were fairly vauge about this systems operation and I was wondering if any one out there has heard anything concerning this application. The one thing that they stressed is the need for dehumidification in this application. Being that I work in the rockie mountian area and our main concern is humidification for comfort I would like any input that is out there. I know that the Germans have been struggling with this for a while and dont know if they have found a soultion to this problem at this time.
    Thanks for any input.

    Germans \"Struggling with it\"??!!

I'm not sure where you get your information, myths, and legends, but radiant cooling is a mainstream building comfort system in many parts of the world, and nobody in Germany is "struggling" with it. Radiant cooling systems are as common over there as split system AC systems are here in North America. There are actually a lot of radiant cooling residential projects all over the US, with many that I'm familiar with in California. Just Google the following:

    Davis Energy Group

Our Cool House (Deep Creek Maryland radiant with geo-exchange)
