    Warmboard solar collectors

    Mark,

Any progress in this direction? Dawn Solar turns a similar arrangement into a hybrid collector by laminating thin-film PV cells on the green metal roofing

    storage

Hello Matt, Have you considered using a polyethylene tank? PE storage could cost a LOT less per gallon stored and should be able to handle the heat easily. Simple copper coil heat exchangers are not difficult to put in. I'm using a 1000 gallon PEX tank and getting up to 140 degrees in it without problem.

I'll be interested in progress reports. Then there's the upgrade... one tank for heat, one for coolth!

    Yours, Larry

    Building a large storage tank

Clayton Cole showed a clever 1000 gallon DIY tank construction at the recent REX show. About 400 bucks worth of materials.

Basically a band of sheetmetal, with several layers of foam insulation pre-scored and curved inside, and an EPDM liner. Add copper or ?? coils for the HX.

Clayton has been building and installing these tanks in Maine for over 15 years. The beauty is they can be built just about anywhere without needing a large door way :)

The RPA may have that seminar available on a DVD? Give them a hollar.

A similar tank can be purchased from the Tarm folks www.woodheat.com, or www.sssolar.com
