Although this is not specifically heating related, I do think it's relevant to our forum:

Why wouldn't the utility company have better monitoring especially when working with "old gas lines" and why isn't there some sort of home "gas" detector especially for folks who lack a sense of smell?
Disclaimer: Jimmy Brown is an old family friend which is how I found out about this, and the lesson for me is, you should never let your life come in the way of keeping touch with people you care about, you never know when a cup of tea may be the last thing they do...
