The Church is looking good. I nudge them periodically to get me some fuel bills for the various buildings on the property.
Thanks for reminding me. Let me give them another nudge.
The staged fired unit may have me waiting until next year. The building owner seemed to like the idea of running a kerosene heater during the day and leaving the T-stat at 55 degrees at all times. I'll look at his bills nonetheless. My only aggravation at this time is that I've yet to get control over the ridiculous amount of excess air (with both bases firing) on this particular set-up. Losses are disgusting as are the gross efficiency numbers for a brand new boiler. Gonna have to do something about that.
As an aside, I had to rebuild the secondary air damper actuator on that B-Line boiler in the Cleveland area. The original used a doped fabric. In searching for materials I was estimating had characteristics of the original (when new!), I arrived at a polyester screen (fine silk screening material) and treated it with an aliphatic rubber cement, that I know for a fact has a verrrry long life span. Of course, I had to shoot it with paint and sand the top of the raised lettering.
I'm still amazed that this ancient CI boiler is the most efficient steamer (of any kind) that I've ever measured. Its radical design was no gimmick.

Was looking over some of my bookmarks and rediscovered a couple of your threads- did the fuel savings work out the way you predicted?

Diaphragm material
Terry, if you ever need to make diaphragms in the future, fabric reinforced neoprene rubber sheet works really well for the application. I usually get it from Mcmaster-Carr supply, www.mcmaster.com. They sell it in various sizes and thicknesses, with cotton or nylon cloth reinforcement. A 12" x 12" sheet of 1/16" thickness sells for between $4 to $9, depending on material. It's good stuff to have on hand when you need it.0
