Boces Instructor Awarded Teacher of the Year

I was a student of Ken Resnick 3 years ago and thought he was a great instructor then. Well after 3 years in the field I realize even more now how much knowledge he has.
Not only knowledge and experience but his raw ability to be able to teach and keep the topics exciting. I have called upon him continuously for tech assistance and he is always there to answer all my questions, almost always over the phone. I asked him the other day how he can see what i am working on when he was over 20 miles away.

My company has sent me to many seminars and classes since I started I working here , but never have I learned so much as when I was in Ken's classes. When in class if the students had a question about a device or control or something that wasnt in the Boces lab , he would go out to his truck ,take a control out of the box and explain it to us , draw us wiring diagrams and sometimes take apart the brand new control to make us totally understand it . One time he was saying that when a transformer (24 volt) blows it usually has a smell that is undescribable, we were teasing him saying what kind of smell .... so he took a AT72D transformer out of his own truck and blew it up in front of us and passed it around for all of us to smell it. It cost him money out of his own pocket to make sure we learn all the time. He also made trainer boards with controls and switches that we used for hands on.
I just wanted to say congratulations and heartfelt thanks for all he does.

Adam

    Congrats Ken.
As a former student of his I can surely say he does deserve it. I learned more from him than from anyone in my 12 years in this field. I took alot of courses in our field and his classes were by far the very best. Combination of lecture and hands on with ALOT (and I mean ALOT) of reference materials.
After working all day I thought it was going to be ruff to sit in class for almost 4 hours a night but , the truth is i never wanted to miss a class because it was always interesting and exciting the way he taught it . I always said to the other guys in class that if there was an award for teaching he should get it . Well its so cool to know that he got one because as far i am concerned he is da best !

  • Wow

A world of thanks from me to you.
I learned of this very recently, seems you guys on The Wall knew before I did .

This recognition also belongs to all the wonderful people at Western Suffolk Boces, Wilson Tech, Dix Hills NY who make me look good semester after semester and year after year. Kristine S, Patty, Pat, Deanna, Nancy, Jack H, Debra M, Dan Holmes(for my start in teaching) and all who's hard work and dedication to the students comes to the forefront at all times .

I learned at an early age (from my father and mother) when your passionate about something give it your all and never waiver , then it is no longer just a job , but it becomes a part of your life that makes us all who we are.

And ... Thanks to all here on The Wall for your kind comments and to Dan Holohan for a place where we can share knowledge and "help others help themselves" .

    Sincerely,
    Ken Resnick

Kenneth Resnick is a dependable instructor who has been with Western Suffolk BOCES since 2004. He works as an Adult Instructor for the evening Career and Technical Education program as a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning or HVAC instructor.

Ken has been in the HVAC industry for most of his life. His knowledge and expertise have earned him a Master Plumbers and Electricians license, certifications in Education and Instruction as well as professional memberships with the National Association of Oil Heat Service Managers and National Oil Research Alliance.

Ken is extremely passionate about his teaching. In fact, he is so well-known in the HVAC industry for his knowledge and outstanding teaching style he is now referred to as “Hollywood”. His devoted students have even joked about camping out for registration as if they were online for tickets to the hottest concert in town. There are few instructors who prepare their lesson plans as well as Ken. His students feel it is a privilege to have Ken as an instructor because they know they will be well prepared when they enter their chosen field. Frequent comments are, “I have learned more from him than I have ever learned from anyone”.

It is with great pleasure that we presented Kenneth Resnick with an Outstanding Teacher Award.

This is what we submitted to SACCE to nominate Ken. He is an outstanding teacher who is truly deserving of this award.

    oil 2

i Lovingly nicknamed Ken's mock up boards The Resnick 2000 Educational Enhancement Device. You can't help but be blown away by the fact that he puts his money where his mouth is. He has two new boards that must have set him back a total of 1200 to 1500. My class is the first to "play" with them. This week on a call he came accross a bad nozzle. while he was wrenching i know that he was thinking about us and which burner was going to get it much to the shagrin of the poor oil 2 student who would really have to scratch his head to solve the problem.

    Congrats and ....

Congrats to Ken from us at Fab Heating Inc.

Is the awards banquet going to be on LI ?
If so is it by invite only or can anyone who wants to congratulate you personally go too ?

Its so nice to see your being honored with this prestigious award because you sure have worked hard to make certain our new recruits are properly trained.

Truth is though I thought we were going to be able to keep you a secret and to ourselves. (only kidding seriously) .

My highest honors to you Ken. Keep up the great work!

    Martin

  • From what I am being told the awards banquet is by reservation through SACCE(Suffolk Association For Continuing Community Education)
    www.sacce.com

The banquet is on Monday June 4th from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
I sincerely appreciate all the kind and generous words.

Its an honor to receive but most importantly its all about education and sharing of knowledge throughout our industry to prepare and recruit future well trained technicians.

A thank you to Prof. Silberstein for visiting Western Suffolk Boces, Wilson Technological Center last night , it was a pleasure to meet you.
