Installing a WM ultra 230 for the first time starting wednesday.
Could you please do me the favor of digging out some install pics, (preferably hung units)
And a couple questions:
The install literature recommends 1.25 pipe size for the primary loop for the 230, but It looks like the 230 has 1 inch supply and return tappings?
I'll be zoning this one with zone valves.
Thanks in advance

I used reducing couplings right off the boiler nips. Make sure you back up the boiler nip when you tighten. It's a compression fitting down in the box and you don't want to loosen it up. Install the rubber gaskets around the nips before piping. If not you'll have to slice 'em.
Follow W-M's piping digram and you can't go wrong. If you're using an indirect don't zone with the heating zones. Pipe as drawn with a DW pump (watch the sizing) and use the DHW priority built into the ultra. I usually hard pipe to the boiler pump flange on the return side and switch to copper upstream. It ships with a 1X1X1/2 tee for the relief valve on the supply side so I increase to 1 1/4" after that.
Do yourself a favor and download or read the I&O manual tonight. It'll prepare you to jump right in when it's delivered. All manuals and supplements are available at W-M's website. The piping diagrams are very concise. Follow them including required check valves. The wall hung kit needs to be ordered seperately. No big changes between floor/wall. The electrical connections are a bear if you wire after the flue piping is in place though with a wall mount.
Here's some pics. Good luck.0 -
Some Pics
Check out www.Hvac-talk.com. This is a pretty good site with tons of pics on the "Wall of pride"-hope they help. I just looked and there are pics of WM Ultra's on the 1st page.0 -
Spend some time searching "The Wall" and you'll find LOTS of install pictures using the Ultra. The vast majority are neat, clean and as suggested by Weil-McLain but you might find a couple poor examples to use for comparison.0 -
