Question concerning steam

Question concerning one pipe system. Had 84V boiler/riello burner (spelling?) installed over a year ago. Today, wiser about steam due to Dan's website, books, etc. ASked contractor if I need vents on mains; he said probably not, which is questionable. Maybe I should get a steam expert. Question: over winter, system went out 3 or 4 times; I had to reset to get going again; would not start again without resetting. He said oil is not atomizing or something like that; does that sound correct? I appreciate the Wall and feedback. MaryAnn

Sounds like your burner was never set up properly, and yes you need main vents, they are very important. Where are you located?

    Mike's right.

Oil steam boilers MUST be serviced annually. Using combustion test instruments is key.

The mains? must always be vented!

Want to reduce fuel consumption by a bunch? Have the tech drop the operating steam pressure down to two p.s.i. tops!

If you need a tech that has more than a clue, use the "Find a professional" tab up top. Plug in your zip code. MA has a bunch of top quality guys listed.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for your answers. I have more knowledge from the web, books, and Dan's seminar. I would have gotten a specialist from day one. I can only go forward from here and find someone local (steam specialist) to solve problems (venting and so forth).

Again, thanks for your feedback. You guys are very helpful. Great attitude.
