I have a 2 pipe steam richardson system radiator that will not heat. The supply will start to get hot, but not the sections. I removed the ball check union, but it has no ball in it. can I replace it with a steam trap, and replace the graduated supply valve with a standard supply valve? some of the newer radiators are connected this way.

Yes....
But if it is working leave the graduated valve in place. Many of them still work well after all these years. A Tunstall or Hoffman trap will work. Mad Dog
