One thing to watch out for- the supply tapping in the front section has a baffle in it, which is for air separation on a hot-water system. When we install the 80 series on steam where only one supply riser is needed, we use the supply tapping in the rear section, which is wide open. This lowers the steam's exit velocity.
Here's a shot of a 4-80 we installed on a Webster Vapor system. It uses a 4-inch dropped header from the rear tapping, and makes some nice dry steam!

Installing Weil Mclane boiler #380 on a one pipe system 3" main. I have never seen it done but can you use a union to pipe in the header to the main?0 -
