Radiator Cross Section Thickness

How thick is the cross section of hotwater cast iron radiators? 1/8", 3/16"?
How sensitive are the edges to damage that could cause problems?
How careful does one have to be when working around a cast iron radiator?
Thanks,
Jim

3/16" is about right on average for the broken pieces I've seen. They're amazingly tough. A youngster could probably pound on one all day with a hammer and wear himself out before he ever broke it--I'm not even sure that a typical adult could break one with a standard hammer unless they got "lucky". Utterly impossible to break by hand or by common accident. I've seen them dropped from 2nd floor windows and not break when they land on fairly soft earth.0
