residential steam pipe insulation
has anyone tried or considered using a coating like SuperTherm before adding the fiberglass pipe insulation??0 -
steam pipe insulation - residential
It's a ceramic based paint that proports to reflect radiant heat. I was thinking that the standard 1" nominal fiberglass steam pipe insulation ain't a heck of a lot.0 -
pipe insulation
I would install greater than one inch on my pipes if I could.
Most of my steam pipes are attached too close to the ceiling to allow even one inch on them (old house). I have a mix of 2 inch, 1 inch and 1/2 inch (useless).
I just had a blower door and thermal scan tests on my house and was told to spend my money in tightening up my attic. Fixing leaks around penetrating vent and fan pipes, ac ducts and chimney may pay off better than more insulation or supertherm on my steam pipes.
I guess it depends on supertherm cost versus energy saving benefits-which may be difficult to measure.
