How's the weather back East

We "were" going to Flemington, NJ from Boston. Not happening. NY roads are out or closed in enough places and the cresting has not happened yet. CT and NJ roads not a whole lot better.

Susan's dad calls and says, "I can't tell you what you ought to do but DON'T COME!"

We agreed.

(His part of Flemington is an island now apparently.)

He does worry about his brood so he is happy. :)

    outside

It's lousy enough that I am not looking forward to getting out tomorrow AM. Cold rain, on the cusp of sleet, windy, RAW. Soup weather.

That's how it is 30 miles south of Boston.

We've had roughly 5" so far. And have only lost the power once (thank god for generator's). It's now turned over to sleet and the wind is just starting to kick up. I'm so glad spring is here now....:(

I have off tomorrow so I'm happy with whatever nature conjures up over night and into tomorrow. My crocuses closed up their petals and no other perennials have popped up yet so this rain will satisfy the urge to grow.

    Lots of rain in Baltimore

they say we might get some snow Monday evening or Tuesday. I've shoveled 10 inches of "20% Chance" in the past, guess we'll have to wait and see.....

    Hey Guy

We're starting our first Prestige install tomorrow. It's a 110 LP gas model going on a BB system with very low head. It calculates to less than 5 ft of head with a total flow requirement of 7GPM and no DHW. Would you recommend piping it in primary secondary? From what I can determine in the manual, the on board circ should easily handle the flow needed for the boiler and the system. RE the system, the whole house is all on one zone with 1 1/4" copper branching into 4 loops pf 3/4 with balancing valves. None of the runs contain more than 30' of BB.

    piping

that is one of the scenarios that the Prestige was designed around. Pipe it simple supply/return, NO P/S is needed. Set the Grundfos to speed 2 and you will be done.
When setting the boiler output temp (setting 4) watch the following:
Setting: 1 140 (add 46) delivery to indirect
2 01 Burner and circ on with indirect demand
3 01 Burner and circ on with heat demand
4 180 Delivery maximum for heat

Those settings 2 and 3 can cause confusion.

Let me know what you think of the boiler when you finish.

    7:00am, first call

That nice Burnham Mega-steam boiler Darin and I installed is sitting in 12" of water.

Raining like hell and road closings are starting.

Job sites will be a sloppy, muddy mess for a few days.

Looks like nice weather for the NYCBU though.

    Wrong forecast!

I'm on top of the Green Mountains in northern VT. one to two feet was the forecast. I awake this morning to 40F, hellacious winds and pelting rain. The rain gage says we've only gotten 1.25" in the past 20 hours.

The next three days however looks like major flooding and more snow potential, before it all ends.

Spring cannot arrive until "mud season" ends. I susect 4-12" of rain may make some mud. The problem now is, I'll be in NJ Thursday and NYC Friday and miss most of "mud season."

    How sad is that(;-o)

    WX,

I just got home after a swell drive. The causeway in Essex Ma. was under the river, and the traffic was backed up for 1/2 a mile, and dopey me without my camera! Right up to the doors of Woodman's, for the initiated...(Ya HAD to be there!)

I tried the "backway", but the entrance to that was overflowing due to the saltmarsh...that NEVER sees that much water! I had to backtrak almost 20 miles to get to my home...which is an honest 10 minutes from the office.

The river beside my house is almost as high as last year and my guess would be it hasn't yet crested.I'll watch close from here on in...I really don't want to find out if my car floats!

Hell, maybe I'll get lucky again....and the bridge will get trashed. Last year, my street was made a dead end for 2 months while the Corps of Engineers decided if the bridge was still safe.(I'm on the right side for getting to work, that's all that matters!) 2 bridges upriver are STILL closed and probably won't see any action for another year or so.

If it gets hairy, I'll break out the camera.

You gotta love the weather in New England. If you don't....just wait a minute. Chris

  • I'm expecting power at my house back tomorrow or the day after. We couldn't even get to our house monday night due to downed trees up and down our road, had to go shack up with the in-laws. They, miraculously still had power, even though one of their power poles was at 50 degrees to the ground with a tree pushing on the lines... go figure...

As of this morning, there are still 7 massive trees across our road with barely enough cut off to squeeze a car past, and 3 more places where you're driving over downed wires.

Lost top of half of a large maple behind my house too.. luckily it fell away from the house.
