How to test a bad motor

I was wondering how to test a new beckett 3450 motor. They have the capaciator starts. I find people saying all the time about Ignitors and the new 3450 beckett motors that they either work or dont work. I believe there must be some way of testing the equipment because I know it goes bad. It just seems like the tech's I know kind of guess and check when it comes to changing Ignitors and new 3450 beckett motors. I have a little tester with a light that you set on top of an ignitor but I find this is not reliable all the time. If anyone could give me some feed back or information that would be wonderful.

When you say new, do you mean the PSC Motor?

    PSC Motor

If the motor would not run ,I would first check the capacitor . If it went bad , most of the time all you have to do it look at it . A hole would be blown through . If not first check if pump is binding , then check the cap with a ohm meter . The resistance would climb up steady . A cap meter should also be used to check it see if it is still giving proper micro ferrets ...

  • Everything stated here already, all I'd add is get a motor you know is good, ohm out the windings and use those numbers as benchmarks for future readings on suspect motors. A megohm meter might be a good idea to check the condition of the winding insulation and try to wiggle the motor shaft ACROSS it's axis and see if there's any play at all, usually a little click. If there is that indicates worn shaft end bearings
