radiators bottom-to-bottom or not

I'm installing old(salvaged) radiators that were originaly piped across the bottom (gravity). Is it ok to pipe the rads this way when using a circulator or should I attempt to open the upper nipple to connect top-to-bottom? note:old victorian, ornate, matching pair, expensive, rusty rads.
I need to get maximum BTUs out of these things but I don't want to damage them.
Thanks

    Bottom-bottom connections work fine.

    Beware of High Flow Rate

Depend of system piping ,flow rate and size of radiator but it can go straight through . Rare but it can happen. You can plug up the next push nipple as a back up.
