I was thinking
yesterday about ways to move heavy cast iron beasts. Being a one man shop I find the old CI boilers daunting and last Fall purchased a stair climbing hand truck as a hedge against lack of manpower. Then last night one of the Alien movies was on. The one where Sigourney Weaver had that exoskeleton that moves how she moves, and she could move heavy objects with, and eventually threw the Alien out of the ship with. Now that would be a cool thing to have to move boilers. Just pick it up and walk outside. Where can I purchase one please???? WW

I would almost pay anything for a robot that takes of service calls on toilets. The few times I get stuck working on them, I wonder why I bother offering plumbing services at all....

You're looking for the wrong technology...
That exoskeliton was large... You'd have a hard time fitting into the basement with it on.
What you need is the Star Trek anti-gravity lifting platforms. Jack the boiler up and slide one of those under it. Then just gently push the boiler where you want it.
A lot more simpler; and a lot less parts that would need maintenance (electronics repair is usually cheaper than mechanical repairs).

The ideal solution....
...would be a "shrink ray gun."
Think about it! You could shrink the boiler with your ray gun, place it in your pocket to keep your hands free for carrying tools, set it on the basement floor, and then unshrink it!
I'm brilliant!!!!!!!!!0 -
Beam me
why not set up the 3 tri-pods and beam the boiler right out of the basement and into the junk yard.

Anyone who can spell Sigourney has super powers in my book!0 -
Maybe you could \"transform\"
it into a new one and leave it hooked up?
Or just stick a new dilithium crystal in the thing and re- route a couple power busses. A little less force field ain't gonna hurt anything.0
