This was found in a room adjacent to the boiler room. It had some markings that I forgot to write down. Something like Cleveland and a date cica 1890.0 -
Is it still tied into the heating system?0 -

That's what I was thinking.0 -
Mouat?
if this is a Vapor system, it could be a piece of old Mouat equipment. Mouat was based in Cleveland. Paging Gerry Gill.....

I would guess that is a domestic hot water generator
with those galvanized pipes hooked up above and looks like steam feed on bottom left. Looks like the condensate connection on right side has been removed. Just a guess.0 -

If you Google "Penberthy" you will find a variety of syphon jet venturi style pumps. They use a motive such as water forced through a venturi to syphon a fluid or even a solid. This I believe is the principle (very old) used in this device.
The short time I worked for United P&H exposed to these devices. They are actually very unique and still used in industrial applications where spark hazard is to be avoided.
I kept the slide out sizing tool and find the dead mens ways very fascinating.0 -

I have a couple of the small venturi siphons from my Dad probably dating back to the 1920's or so. He explained what it was. Hard to believe if you've never seen anything like it before. Garden hose connects to one end and another hose to the other end. Lay it on a wet floor, turn on the water and voila, sucks the water right up off the floor.
I've seen cheapie plastic ones sold to pump water off a pool cover but mine are solid brass.0
