Happy Passover

I like that we (or I should say my Susan) is taking the time to host a Seder tonight with friends and family to mark Passover. Not so much for the religious aspects but the cultural, historical and traditional.
Of course her kids have less patience with the traditions which is rather dissappointing at some levels. Seems we abbreviate it for their sakes along the lines of 1) There was a bad king. 2) We killed him. 3) Let's eat!
Still this is a blending of the very old integrated with the modern world; a time to slow down and give thought to past trials and future hope.
Hug your kids.

alternate story
They tried to kill us and couldn't do it. Let's eat and celebrate0 -
maybe the kids
would find it more meaningful to celebrate this holiday out of something more than culture and tradition.
Maybe something is missing when the religious aspect is left out? No offense intended at all, but it IS a religious holiday after all, and unlike the Easter Bunny, many people think it commemorates something that actually happened. ;-)Kevin0 -
So it is written...
Apologies if this detracts further from the religous respect of this day - but was the Ten Commandments shown on TV this year? I've always enjoyed epic type movies, and usually caught it on other years past. Is the story within fairly accurate?0 -
I haven't seen it in a long time

But I'm with you L.M., the epic movies were fun, and who could beat Charleton Heston as Moses? Just read the first 20 chapters of Exodus and then watch the movie and you can report back to us how accurate it was. I suspect there are some good things, some speculation, and some contradictory things, but as I say, it's been a long time. Kevin0 -

There has
been speculation that Charlton Heston will never die because Moses feels he wouldn't be able to compete and won't let God approve the arrival date.
Happy Holidays to all.

Our Easter Bunny
wears a yarmulke. =(:)=
But I hear you, Kevin. Thanks0 -
observation
Seems like in the last 5-6 years every Easter season all we see on tv is anti-cristian programming.... the Da Vinci code, and the new horrible blasphemy of supposedly finding Christ's remains in some tomb here on Earth... etc.
Have a blessed Passover season Brad, enjoy the Hillel sandwiches and remember to use listerine after eating all that Maror with your Matzoh....

I kind of had a feeling that mentioning "TV" was inappropriate for this thread. Regardless of what religion or whether the family or faith aspect is the most important - maybe these are times where it should just be off, altogher...0 -
your right
I just end up turning on when I am on the treadmill. I actually mentioned it at confession last night and my priest kind of smirked and said that I could always watch a faith-based video while I run....
Honesty sure does have some short term drawbacks, eh?

Does it offend God?
"Irreverently lays out the case that Jesus Christ never existed" "Jesus Never existed" "the God who wasn't there."
Newsweek
That was one of the Google ads right below this thread.
(it has since changed to something else)
I know for a FACT that Jews, Christians, and Muslims, are all in agreement that Jesus of Nazareth DID in fact exist.
What kind of idiots write this stuff? Will YOU reward them with your hard-earned dollars and pay good money to see it?

You've got your beliefs...
So anyone who doesn't share your beliefs is an idiot? I wasn't aware that any branch of Christianity preached intolerance. I stand corrected. I haven't heard anyone really doubt Christ's existence, the debate basically centers on the issue of whether he was a prophet or a deity.
How someone answer's that question never affects what I think about them. That's their personal beliefs and in a free thinking forum like this, that is how it should remain.
Religion should have no relation to hydronics unless it's a boiler install in anyone's place of worship. Nothing good ever comes out of religious debates here.
Happy Easter0 -
can't really disagree
It wasn't my intention to make Brad's Jewish thread about Christianity, sorry Brad.
I guess all religions have their fanatics. I always believed that when dealing with people of various religions the first rule is respect and civility. I have acquaintances that belong to many different religions, we all joke with each other here and there but there is always an underlying foundation of respect.
But I will have you know one thing about hydronics and Religion. When it is 11pm and you have been trying to get the stinkin heating system to work and you can't figure what the heck it is, you will either pray for guidance, or blaspeme, but eventually some religiously themed insult or praise will emanate from any frustrated or elated technician's mouth when things are crazy and the hours long.....FACT!!! haha
Happy Passover Brad,

Not at all, Cosmo!
Nothing you said or did diluted it; if anything you added to it. Thanks for your extended kindnesses.
The point of my posting was a time of reflection having far less to do with the specifics of Judaism but rather the common elements between Judaism and Christianity, beyond the basic tenets that bind both.
Giving up certain pleasures for Passover seems a little Lenten does it not? Breaking bread (OK, Matzoh), reading the Haddagah (the saga of Passover), simple foods rich in symbolism... then the children go off to find the hidden afikomen (sweetened matsoh, a treat) much like an Easter egg hunt.
I was raised non-denominational Protestant, not a church goer basically but still follow the basic rules. My Susan grew up as did her parents in a similar way but Jewish, (with a Christmas Tree) so more culturally and less religiously observant. So together we celebrate the simpler ceremonies marking all times of the year and marvel at the similarities. That in turn gives us pause to be thankful and that is what it is all about."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"

Read the post carefully Uni R
This has nothing to do with religion.
People disagree on who Jesus was: liar, lunatic, or Lord.
Nowhere did I mention my beleifs. But a fringe few modern folks with all the benefits of historical records right at their fingertips; to honestly inquire and conclude that He never EXISTED- are IDIOTS. Believing in George Washington doesn't make one an American Patriot, but denying he existed makes one an idiot.
My post was about the Goodle ad that was below that I quoted. Kevin0
