Goodbye old friend.

products that contain some of the most reliable switches ever made, time is running out. Illinois has banned production & distribution of mercury containing products effective 1 July. Last order date is 7 April.

If you maintain boilers w/ 150 or 157 Pump Controllers, you might want to pick up some mercury switched head assemblies. That is, if you can use them in your jurisdiction.

Hmmmm. Wonder if the ban extends to mercury containing screw-in flourescent light bulbs?

    Mercury

You know....I wondered about those light bulbs when Maine banned the mercury switch devices. It will be interesting to see what happens when people figure that out. They'll have to decide between mercury and light bulb efficiency.

    Small amounts...

Less than what you'd find in a watch battery.

And by the time we get all our lights switched, we'll start switching them again for LEDs, which appear to be far better - especially their instant on factor vs the many second warm up that a CFL requires.

    Mercury spill

I know mercury is useful and all but I'm glad they are banning it. Some numbscull just dumped between 150-200 pounds of the stuff less than one mile from my home.
People should really get an education on what to do with the stuff when disposing of it.

Jim, Check with your supply house................

I know the one I deal with has a bin from Honeywell that others have used for bulk containers like you have.

    Around here....

....the local Emergency Management Agency (EMA, or the local arm of FEMA) will take mercury at no cost.

    I'm willing to bet

I'm willing to bet that person knew exactly what they were doing. It was either done to save the fees for proper disposal or done for money because someone wanted to circumvent the system. That is quite a large quanity not like some unknowing homeowner throwing an old thermostat into the trash.

    I think they're being stupid

as always..over-reactions for the ''feel good'' crowd..liquid metal makes the best switches, hands down..what are they going to use for vaporstats?
