Tubing???

If the tube is metric it will not work with a Sharkbite.

Why not tell us what is printed in the side??

    Tubing question

I was at a call today and found a radiant manifold leaking in a closet and have never seen this tubing. I need to redo the manifold because the connections are leaking. The only printing I can read is: Duo Flex Cr PE - Xo 17-2 SDR 9 160F #100PSI For 50 YR DIN 16892/3 MFG Date 25-08-94 MACHINE #2. The O.D is 3/4 and the I.D. is 7/16 maybe a 1/2. I tried using a 5/8 Rehau Everloc fitting and expanded it and could only get the pipe onto the fitting alittle over half way. I had a 1/2 crimp ring and it wouldn't fit over the pipe.

Does anyone know what I can use to redo the manifold. I'll post some pics of the old manifold and a connector. Thanks in advance

    metric size

    sounds like a metric size
Alot of people and contractors by this stuff online to save money. They always pay in the end.

Another contractor asked me the same thing a few years back he wanted to try the wirsbo exp tool so he could repair a radiant line. It didnt work. We where able to use a sharkbite fiting then adapt with new pipe to the manifold. The sharkbite fitings work on a few diferent OD pipes. Like 1/2 cop or 1/2 pvc its the same fiting. Its worth a shot.

    That looks like a

Wirsbo QS20 fitting and manifold. The fitting is compression. You MAY have a metric size tubing though.

    I think it is metric

I googled the printing on the tubes and it all came back in German and Italian so I guess it is metric. I've never used Sharkbites and always said they were for people who couldn't solder but they may be the answer. Are they reliable?

I keep a few in my truck for that late night call. But only in my truck I havnt put them in any of my others.

They have worked fine for me and everyone I asked say they work great. One plumber in my area uses them on eveything. They should work grood for your aplication.

    Good luck

    What

are you going to connect the shark-bite to?

Wheels is right, they will not work on metric.

    Weird tubing

I mention the printing on the pipe in my first post. I've found some web sites for the tubing but they're in French and Dutch. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to find something here in the US for the repair.

So Sharkbits won't work with metric? Seems like I'm getting conflicting reports and any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Steve

    might look into Stadler fittings.

Doesn't matter if it is metric

the only info you need is the actual measured OD of the tube. If it is 7/8 or 5/8" then a SharkBite or any compression fitting will work.

Some, but not all, metric sizes cross over to off the shelf fittings. If it is an odd size you can still find fittings but you may have to shop the UK websites for availability.

    metric pex

Steve, several people imported some odd sized pex. EHT for example brought in 17x2 & 20x2.The tube o.d. is 17mm and the wall thickness is 2mm. The stuff is bigger than 1/2" but smaller than 5/8". Oventrop still makes the fittings.Their part number(per pair nickel plated) is 101 68 76. In plain brass (per each) 102 77 59.I believe these fittings fit all the newer "universal" R20 manifolds. Regards Chris.

    Metric pex- whew!

Hey Chris, Thanks for the input and the info on the fittings. I checked out their website and found the connectors. But I need to extend some of the tubes because they were cut too short and really at extreme angles going into the manifold which caused them to leak in the first place. I didn't see any couplings or any of the 17-2 tubing. I'd love to adapt it to a standard size so I can extent the tubes and use a conventional manifold. What a pain, I didn't think it was going to be such a big deal. Oh well, I guess this is what makes this kinda work so challenging.

    euro pex to ami pex

Steve as you said finding scrap pieces of 17x2 is a problem. I'll bet the flow/pump requirements are not that critical that a short piece of 16x2 would be noticed! (i.e. 1/2" American heat pex) I think the coupling you need is Oventrop #102 82 63. Then use anybodys R20 1/2" compression pex connector on the other side. I could put samples in a padded envelope and mail to you from way out here in Jackson Hole if you'd like to be sure? Regards Chris.

    Thanks Chris

    Chris,

If you could mail some samples to me, that'd be great. I'll e-mail you offlist and give you my mailing address.
    Thanks, Steve

    clean hands retort

Yep, my hands are a lot cleaner now that all I do is troubleshoot and service work. I keep a bucket of Gojo hand cleaner towels on board. Besides keeping the paws clean they come in handy wiping down equipment or cleaning up pipe dope you get on customers carpet or walls.
