Geothermal storage (buffer) tanks

I've asked about this before and gotten conflicting responses - Is an adapter from the element straight thread to NPT necessary? I think someone said they've been using regular NPT male fittings with plety of dope and had no problems. Any other opinions one way or another?

    Thermal Storage Tanks

We are getting into the DX Geathermal market. Where can we find a source for thermal storage (buffer) tanks. We deal with Heat Transfer Products but they don't have a unit with two inneys and two outeys without the coil.

    Geo Buffer Tanks

One of the leading geothermal supply houses in our area packages Marathon water heaters as their buffer tanks. After removing the elements, they have a (spendy) brass adapter that threads into the element tappings. It seems to be working well for us.

    Buffer

See www.cemline.com for a hot water buffer tank and/or chilled water buffer tank (different design criteria). A 60 gallon unit has just been introduced.

Some of the new \"smart\" plastic tank water heaters

have an odd thread on their elements. For those you would need some adapter.

For a basic plain 1" threaded element I have used a copper 1" male adapter or a 1" threaded nipple without any leaks problems.

I'm not sure this is a "factory approved" connection. But plenty of plumbers use this method.

I know Lochinvar has added a bunch of storage tanks to their lineup. Try them also.
