Because it's so hard to find cast iron fittings and having to use malleable ones instead, I use wide teflon (couple of wraps) and then a good quality pipe dope. That fitting will come apart later on if need be. Have installed several Smith Mills "porkchops" using Never Seize for pipe dope and that works very well indeed.
